Understanding how your Lifestyle & Genetic make up
all have an influence on your well being

DNA Testing & Lifestyle

Genomics is changing the future of health and medicine. Variations in our genome (DNA) are what makes each of us unique and can have great impacts on our life and health. One gene variant can make a difference, most chronic diseases result from the relationship between multiple common variants (SNPs) and environmental factors.

Forever Young offers a range of specialist nutrigenomics DNA tests which inform how inherited health risks can be mitigated through personalised nutrition and lifestyle change.

Genotype results are presented in the context of nutrition and other environmental factors, such as sleep, stress, physical activity and chemicals, that can influence them. Our unique colour-coded pathway diagrams provide easy to digest visual summaries, alongside in-depth insights into the risks or protective potential of each genotype. This enables a deeper and holistic understanding of results and identification of the lifestyle changes that will be most effective.

Food Intolerances

ALLERGEN-SPECIFIC IgE TESTING:

TESTING FOR FOOD AND INHALANT ALLERGIES

Introduction Adverse reactions to food and to inhaled substances can arise by a variety of mechanisms and these may be immune- or non-immune mediated.

The usefulness of measuring IgE antibodies in Type 1 hypersensitivity reactions is now well established as a means to identify the allergens responsible for this immune-mediated reaction, which can be triggered by very small amounts of antigen. Immune-mediated hypersensitivity reactions were classified by Coombes and Gell into four types:

 Type 1 (immediate hypersensitivity) reactions are mediated by IgE antibodies; examples are hay fever and nut allergies.

 Type 2 (antibody-dependent, cytotoxic) reactions are mediated by IgG and IgM antibodies, as well as complement; for example Goodpasture’s disease.

 Type 3 (immune complex) reactions are mediated by IgG and complement; for example SLE (systemic lupus erythrematosis).

 Type 4 (delayed hypersensitivity) reactions are mediated by T cells; for example the contact dermatitis that characterises nickel hypersensitivity. Over one third of the UK population has been diagnosed with asthma, eczema or hay fever.

The consensus is that this is largely Type 1 hypersensitivity. There has also been a continuous growth in anaphylactic allergic events presenting in Accident and Emergency Departments. In particular the prevalence of Type 1 peanut allergy is increasing .

Heavy Metals & Mineral

Minerals and trace elements are now recognized as new molecular biomarkers for chronic diseases. Gut absorption and tissue bioavailability are of high priority for enzymatic energy production at a cellular level within body organs.

Measurements of their level in the blood however do not offer early significant medical clues most of the time. On the contrary, their tissue level is much more reliable and any disturbance in their tissue level provides an early sign of a significant health problem.

Nutritional & Environmental Medicine

In the good old days we use to have Family Doctors, this meant the Doctors had personally looked after your Parents, Grandparents and Great grandparents. This enabled them to understand your background, family history and the lifestyle and environment you have been brought up in.

For example if the doctor treated your father with Diabetes, when you visited him 15 years later showing similar symptoms he already had somewhere to start looking as to why you were feeling unwell.

Sadly today we do not have this and every time we visit the doctor they have to rule out a million things before they even start investigating. More often than not the Doctor does not have time to take into account your whole life.

Everyone is different and our bodies are made up from our own genetic make up, we are like a machine and we are all made differently so what might work for one may actually make someone else sick. For example someones body may not be able to get rid of Heavy Metal pollution therefore living in the city could make them poorly, however someone the same age, build, diet and sex may be perfectly well within this environment.

At Forever Young we take the time to look at you and your lifestyle and family history as whole, then we look into your symptoms and advise a starting point to help you understand your body and what is happening and why it is not working.

The easiest way to explain it is when you buy a car you are told to put Diesel in it as this is food the car needs to make it work. If you put petrol in it, well we all know what happens then, for me it was a costly AA call out.

If you purchased a Mini it is not going to fair well going off road, however a Land Rover will do very well as it is built for this.

When we are born sadly we are not delivered with a standard operating procedure on how we work best. So our job is to find out for you why you are in pain, why you are tired all the time etc etc.

We look forward to helping you…………………………
